Decision pleases Superintendent

Editor,

(Copy of letter to County Commissioners)

Thank you for the well-run hearing last week. I appreciate the manner in which it was conducted. It was extremely wonderful seeing that the democratic process does work in a dignified manner. I believe that everyone gained a much deeper understanding of the work and worth of the Office of the County Superintendent and the cooperation and respect that exists amongst Lake County offices.

While you may have believed that consolidation had merit at this time, you wisely heard the needs of the school districts, particularly the needs of the rural schools, and decided to leave our well-working system intact. The wise leader has no expectations; no outcome can be a failure. My office will continue and go on to show that this indeed was a wise decision, especially for our children.

My heart is full of satisfaction knowing that our schools will continue to be well served by such highly dedicated people, as those that you heard testify for their Districts. I am confident good people will rise to the challenge of the position and file for election for full-time Lake County Superintendent of Schools.

I will work to encourage worthy candidates to rise to the opportunity. Please keep your ears open to potential candidates and encourage them also. Do not hesitate to send them to me for background information on the office before making their final decisions.

As I have said numerous times, I continue to be honored to serve Lake County, and will help make the transition as smooth as possible prior to my retirement to other opportunities.

Joyce Decker Wegner
