William K. Kayser
POLSON — William Karl "Bill" Kayser was taken to his Lord on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005. Bill was born on June 20, 1947, in Newark, N.J.
Bill retired after proudly serving law enforcement in Bozeman for 26 years, ending his career as the assistant chief of police.
Bill moved to Polson in 2003 where he spent many hours working on his house.
He loved walking his dog, Abby, and spending time cruising his boat on Flathead Lake.
He was an avid outdoorsman and looked forward to hunting season every year. This year, he fulfilled a dream to go moose hunting in Canada with his buddies Jimmy and Ron.
Bill was a well-known Montana Grizzly fan.
He held season tickets for both football and basketball, very seldom missing a game. He took great delight in the Grizzlies' 16-year reign over the Bobcats.
His fellow officers took great delight in decorating his office in blue and gold after the streak was broken.
Bill came to Montana in 1965 to study forestry at the University of Montana in Missoula. He never looked back.
In 1966, he met his wife Peg at a Paul Revere and the Raiders concert. The couple were married in Kalispell in 1969.
Bill and Peg moved to Bozeman in the mid-'70s to run a group home for teens. He soon joined the Bozeman Police Department as a patrol officer. He was known for his ability to generate revenue for the city.
It was Bill and Peg's greatest wish to start a family. With much happiness, Sarah joined their family in 1977. They were blessed soon after with the arrival of Erik in 1979. Matt joined the family in 1981, followed by Annie in 1983. Scott completed their family in 1987. Bill was tremendously proud of all his children and nothing brought greater joy to his life than his wife and kids.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife Peg and his five wonderful children, Sarah (Will) of Washington, D.C., Erik of Missoula, Matt of Bozeman, Annie of Albany, N.Y., and Scott of Missoula. Bill is also survived by his brother Bob and his wife Julie and their children Kristi and Eric Bader and their sons, Jake, Danny and Michael Kayser.
Survivors also include his mother-in-law, Carol and her husband Tom Vars; his brother-in-law, Rick Weaver and his wife Karen and their four children, Kimberly, Angela, Alex and Nicky; and sister-in-law Linda Johnson. He is also survived by many other family members held close to his heart.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Helmut and Eleanor Kayser.
Services were held Dec. 13, at Grace Bible Church in Bozeman.
The family suggests memorials to the National Kidney Association in honor of Bill's nephew, Jake.
