Genevieve Gallagher Low
CHARLO — Genevieve Gallagher Low, 64, died on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005.
She was born Sept. 28, 1940, in Charlo to Frank and Mabel Gallagher. She was raised and schooled in Charlo through grade 12. She was raised on the family farm, the 11th of 13 children, and attended the Catholic Church and catechism in the D'Aste area.
After high school graduation, Genie (as she was known) worked in Idaho in child care and as a clerk in the Sterling's dry goods department in Ronan, clerking jobs in Polson and a short stay in Great Falls.
She then moved to Washington where she married Merle Hogsett. They lived in several areas in Washington, buying, remodeling and selling houses. She enjoyed decorating and sewing. The marriage ended in divorce.
She owned the Farmers Bar in Endicott, Wash., and also worked in elder care. She later married Ray Low, who preceded her in death. Genie continued to do elder care until she became ill. She lived with her stepson and his wife, Terry and Rosetta Hogsett, in St. Johns, Wash.
On Dec. 21, 2003, she came home to her family for care. Genie had many health problems at this time and lived in Pablo with Rita for a time. Following surgery in May she moved to Missoula and later resided at Hillside Manor Care Center.
Genie had a huge love for animals and was a great seamstress. Her frail body forced her to give up both as her health declined. She gathered many friends and family in her 64 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Ann; husband Ray Low; her nephew and godson, Terry McCready; niece Victoria McCready; and stepson Gary Hogsett.
She is survived by siblings Mabel (Edward) Felton, Seumas, Fran (Harry) Keith, John (Carol), Pat (Ken) Ague, Colleen, Rita, Ed, Ethel, George and Dan; two stepchildren, Terry and Barbara Hogsett; 66 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; many special friends and classmates; and Sharon, Candi and Marcia.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Charlo or to the donor's choice.
Funeral services were held Feb. 5 at St. Joseph Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Ronan.
Shrider's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
