CHARLO — The Charlo Lady Vikings continue to rack up wins. Friday night they added to the win column with a 53-33 victory to valley rival Lady Two Eagle River girls.

It's not how you start. It's how you finish. The Lady Eagles jumped out early with a 9-6 lead with two minutes left in the first quarter. But the Lady Vikings stepped it up and put in a full court press. The Vikings' Hayley Carr picked up a loose ball during the full court press with 22 seconds left in the first quarter and made an easy lay-up. The Vikings had the 12-9 advantage at the end of the first eight minutes.

"We wanted to get out early," said Two Eagle head coach Jami Hanson.

The Eagles did jump out early but struggled to hold on to their lead.

During the second quarter it was the Lady Vikings who set the pace. The Vikings' Jessica Bucholz went coast to coast with 2:03 left in the second quarter for two points and the Vikings jumped out to the 23-12 lead. The Vikings went into the locker room with the 29-15 lead.

Charlo's Ma'rya Hungerford scored first in the second half with a two-point bucket. Two Eagles' Whitney Brown quickly answered Hungerford's basket with a two pointer herself.

"Ma'rya played really smart," said Lady Vikings head coach Bret Thompson.

Hungerford finished Friday night's game with 11 points.

Charlo only outscored the Eagles 10-6 during the third but the damage from the first half was too much for the Lady Eagles to dig out from.

"We never gave up, we were able to run our offense," said Hanson.

The Lady Eagles lost Jessica OldPerson during the second half because of an injured back according to Hanson. Hanson said OldPerson seemed to strain a back muscle and will be day-to-day until she feels well.

With the loss of OldPerson, Eagle Breanna Harlow stepped in and got some valuable playing experience.

"Breanna did some good things and took the ball to the basket," said Hanson.

The Vikings were led by Sam Lemmon with 13 points followed by Carr with 12.

"Sam hit some big buckets for us. She seems to have the touch from the outside," said Thompson.

With the conference win the Lady Vikings hold onto first place in District 14-C. The Lady Eagles are now battling for second place against Noxon.
