Get density map, study it
Editor,
I am the first to admit that although I clipped all three papers' coverage of the heated Jan. 11 meeting in commissioner chambers regarding Lake County density, it was only last week that I made it to the third floor county planning office to pick up my own copy of the changes proposed.
Copies are right there, free for the asking. The 14-page document has value for even those who do not plan to develop or sub-divide; three pages of definitions at least offer a better understanding of the discussion our community currently undergoes.
Would you take a Montana driver's exam without reading the study text readily available? Not if you really want a license. Neither should we let this opportunity pass to review the density map and proposed changes.
Ask yourself a few questions:
(1) Is agriculture in Lake County really dead, as Joe Brooks of the Landowners Alliance says?
(2) What is a clustered community, and how many do you imagine will develop where you live over the next five, or 10 years?
(3) How do we protect the wildlife, air and water quality, and cultural values of those who were here first?
A four-month extension was granted for further study at this Jan. 11 meeting. Please don't take as long as I did to get your own copy. Lake County is growing. We owe it to ourselves and to our community vision to actively participate right now.
