Two Eagle claws out big win over Charlo
POLSON — Two Eagle's Gordon Ahenakew started things off right Monday night against Charlo with two quick baskets to give the Eagles the 4-0 advantage. But Charlo's Bo Herak answered for the Vikings with a bucket.
The Eagles jumped out to a 8-3 advantage with 4:05 left in the first quarter. Charlo's sharpshooting started to take the edge out of Two Eagle's lead. With :35 seconds left in the first quarter Charlo's Joey Ray hit a shot to bring the Vikings within one.
The second quarter went back and forth, but with :20 in the first half it was tied at 17. Charlo's Ray hit one shot from the line to give the Vikings the 18-17 advantage going into the locker room.
Charlo came out hitting shots and took their lead to 24-19 before the Eagles started to fight back. Two Eagle's Harley BigDay nailed a trey to give the Eagles the 27-26 lead.
"Tonight Harley really stepped it up big time," said Rod Bird.
BigDay finished the night with three treys and helped his team pull away from the Vikings.
"We just needed to just get our team back in the game," said BigDay.
Ahenakew saw a ball bouncing around and put it back up in the final seconds of the third quarter to give Two Eagle the 29-26 ups on Charlo before the final eight minutes.
"We just didn't get scoring done. We had people that were open, just couldn't find them," said Charlo head coach Tyson Cottet.
Two Eagle out scored the Vikings 17-14 during the fourth quarter and was able to hold off Charlo.
"We had a rocky season, but we came around when it mattered," said Bird.
With the 43-40 win the Eagles advance divisionals in Butte Mar. 3-5.
