Cat owner's heart is broken

| July 14, 2005 12:00 AM

Editor,

My heart and spirit is in so much pain and grief I can not sleep… My beloved Trixie, who was a part of me, perished today at the mouths and fangs of six rottweillers.

She was my shadow. She followed me everywhere, and if she couldn't get to me she would cry for me to come get her. She slept at my side and was part of my spirit. We talked our own language. She always wanted me to be with her. She stretched her paw out at night and I would hold it and she slept peacefully beside me.

She and I were outside this afternoon, enjoying the sun and she made the mistake of crossing over into the neighbor's yard. She ran up a tree just inside their property and the dogs wouldn't let her come down.

While I was talking to the little neighbor boy, Trixie heard me and thought she was safe, so she came down from the tree. Six rottweillers attacked her —witnessed by another neighbor. They saw the dogs kill her and drag her body all over the yard and took her body onto the owners' porch only to be torn apart more, and they ran all over the yard with her body.

The owners would not even come out to retrieve her body. 'No trespassing' signs stop anyone from entering their property and we could not even retrieve her body. Their dogs dragged her body off and she can't be found, and I cannot even bury her.

Their dogs have the privilege of running loose, chasing anything walking on the road. People who live on this road are not able to walk it for fear of the dogs. The police have not responded to previous complaints about the dogs and my Trixie had to pay the price with her life. She gave her life to spare another and I will forever mourn her. May her spirit remain with me. My heart and spirit are broken tonight.
