Charles B. Rogers
ROLLINS — Charles B. "Chuck" Rogers, 89, died at his home in Rollins on May 27, 2005.He was born July 5, 1915, in Groton, S.D., the son of William J. and Cecilia (Freiley) Rogers.
Chuck was a logger, school bus driver and a store owner. He was also a 50-year member of the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed horses, gardening, ice fishing and cribbage.
He married Mamie L. Chabot on Nov. 17, 1966, in Lakeside. He was raised in Rapid City, S.D., and moved to Montana in 1934 and resided in Kalispell and Rollins.
He was a self-employed logger for 23 years, a school bus driver for 10 years, and owned and operated the Rollins Store and Post Office. He retired in 1982.
Chuck helped organize the Rollins Volunteer Fire Department, and served as fire chief for several years, after which he remained a very active member of the fire department. During his logging days, he helped organize the first Loggers Association.
He enjoyed camping and being a member of the Flathead Good Sam's Club, where he served as president. In his last years, he especially loved teaching cribbage to the fourth graders at the Lakeside school.
He is survived by his wife Mamie of Rollins; sons, Patrick (Dalice) Rogers of Deer Lodge, Brian Rogers of Kalispell, Loren Nelson of Kalispell and Marvin Nelson of Rollins; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; six bothers and sisters, Clem Rogers of Hawaii, Margaret Fuhrman of Arizona, Art Rogers of California, Monica Bosch of South Dakota, Josephine Kirchgesler of South Dakota and Pat Evans of California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held June 1 in the Lakeside Chapel with Pastor John Ulrich officiating. Urn burial was in Conrad Memorial Cemetery, Kalispell.
