Marcus Wayne Onesalt

ST. IGNATIUS — Marcus Wayne Onesalt, 14, of Polson died of injuries sustained in an auto accident early Saturday, June 4, 2005, near Ronan.

Marcus was born Jan. 14, 1991, in Polson to Margaret "Maggie" Pierre and Edwin Onesalt. Being from a large and caring family, Marcus stayed with many of his relatives on the Flathead Reservation and had recently graduated from eighth grade in Arlee. He was currently living with his uncle Bear and Aunt Kelly in Arlee.

A devoted son he had special love for his mother, often being referred to as her "Knight in Shining Armor." He also enjoyed many of the things that he, his friends and family would do like hunting and fishing, football and basketball. Marcus was a member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes was learning the traditional ways from his family.

He was preceded in death by his uncles Dave, Louie, John and Pat Pierre, Jr., cousin Maurita Pierre, and his namesake Mark Onesalt.

He leaves behind his mother Margaret "Maggie" Pierre (Antonio) Mendoza of Polson; father Edwin Onesalt of Pablo; brother Justin of Polson and sister Cassandra of Polson; his grandparents Pat (Linda) Pierre of Dog Lake, Elizabeth Pierre of Polson, Barbara and Edwin Onesalt, Sr. of Arizona; his aunts and uncles, Allen "Bear" (Kelly) Pierre of Arlee, Francis "Jazz" (Sheila) Pierre of Elmo, Sophie (Jr.) Green of Spokane and Rose Pierre of Pablo, Grace, Marie Lilly and llinda Onesalt and Jeffery and LeRoy Onesalt, all of Arizona; his niece, Tyneal Onesalt; his best friends, Isaac Pierre, Waylon Michel and Jennifer Rae; his special friend, Aneena Antiste and Baby Clay, with whom he rode four-wheelers, hunted birds and gophers and was like a little brother; and numerous cousins, great aunties and uncles and relatives from the Navajo Nation in Arizona and Flathead Nation in Montana.

Mass was celebrated June 7 in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission. He was laid to rest by his uncles in the St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.

Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
