Tribal membership forum is proposed

| June 8, 2005 12:00 AM

Editor:

As there are many concerns and issues on the minds of Tribal members, I proposed the following:

As there is a strong need for the people to be informed on current developments and policy, the Tribal Council [should] schedule a general forum that would be dedicated solely to the Tribal membership and their concerns. At such a gathering many issues will be brought to the table; as people should meet often to discuss political issues, this forum should be held in a respectful, courtesy manner, and rules of ceremony observed.

Possible forum agenda [items] could include, but not be limited to, Tribal programs and businesses managed by the Tribes, Tribal health or other social issues, economic, educational, trust assets and others issues felt relevant by the members.

A meeting of such importance would require that all district council persons attend as well as the Superintendent, Bureau of Indian Affairs, for an trust issues that ma arise.

The Tribal membership would be able to state their concerns in writing or verbally, if they so wish, for the record. The meeting could be held sometime during the first half of June 2005 and the findings for the record could be disseminated at the next quarterly meeting.

It is with respect that I make this request. The Council's serious consideration would be appreciated.
