Arnold Alfred Bauer
RONAN — Arnold Alfred Bauer, 79, died of a heart attack on Sunday, March 6, 2005, at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan.
Arnold was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Alfred and Alta (Leavitt) Bauer. The family moved to Charlo when Arnold was one and a half years old. He spent most of his life in the Charlo area.
He also spent time in Missoula and Chandler, Ariz. While working in Missoula at the sugar factory and with the railroad, he married his high school sweetheart, Eva Evans, on Dec. 31, 1947. They moved north of Charlo in the spring of 1948, where they started their family. They raised a son and eight daughters.
Arnold farmed and worked various jobs including the Bureau of Reclamation, National Bison Range, seed house, Plum Creeksawmill, and the Harrah Honey Farm.
On Aug. 22, 1956, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Arnold served in the Bishopric for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Charlo Ward for many years, as well as numerous other church callings. In 1996 Arnold and Eva served a full time mission for the Church in Macon, Ga. He was well known for his service and dedication to others.
Arnold loved softball and a good foot race. He played with the church team as their pitcher for many years. Arnold always supported and encouraged his children and grandchildren to play and have fun, but win. He loved riding his horses and organizing several winning teams for the annual Charlo "Over the Hill" races.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Eva to whom he was married for
57 years; three brothers, Milo (Pat) of Logan, Utah, Blaine (Beverly) of Newport, Wash., and Allen Dean (Connie) of Billings; two sisters, Nola (Orson) Boyce of Ephraim, Utah, and Edna Birch of Shelley, Idaho; eight daughters, Mary Jane (Irvin) Long of Charlo; Myra (Mary Jane Elder, close family friend) of Poplar, Lila (Ted) Reed of Idaho
Falls, Anita (Bryan) Gambles of St. George, Utah, Nina (Lance)
Broshar of Stevensville, LuJuana (Rich) Bick of Missoula, Eva Jean (Dave) Moreland of Athol, Idaho, Nadine (Doug) Howell of Idaho
Falls; and a son, Alfred (Lisa) of Ronan; 39 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren with more to be born in June.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 9, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ronan Ward Chapel. Memorials may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Missionary Fund.
