Keep county free of litter and garbage

| May 4, 2005 12:00 AM

Editor,

Every now and then I go for a walk through some of the areas in our beautiful valley. Even though my walks are mostly intended for fitness and exercise, I always make sure to take in the scenery and enjoy every minute.

I love the sweet smell of the outdoors produced by the pine trees and flower, and once I spied this beautiful owl that seemed to leap frog through the trees as I walked.

There is one thing that really bothers me, though. I think it is sad that so many people use this beautiful valley as a garbage dumping ground. As I walked in one particular area, I saw signs that read, "This area is not for dumping garbage," yet there was garbage everywhere. Either the sign was too late in coming (not that we should need signs telling us to not dump our garbage anywhere we feel like) or many people cannot read or don't care, or many of us are lacking in common sense and courtesy or are too lazy to find a refuse container to properly dispose of garbage.

For those who are throwing garbage out of your car window or just dropping it where you stand, please be more thoughtful of your surroundings and remember that this beautiful land we live in is for all of us to enjoy.

Let's do better and keep Lake County free from litter and debris. As we do this, we will also be showing others how we feel about the place in which we live. If, per chance, you may not care about the place in which you live, then I really wish you would move.
