Money was spent wisely

| May 4, 2005 12:00 AM

Editor,

Often used but mostly abused is the slogan, "It's your money." Currently it is being abused by a bunch of sore losers.

Yes, it is my money and I want to congratulate the current administration in Helena for wisely spending it to benefit our great state. The highest priority of all politicians must be to serve its citizens and not to outdo one another in promises to reduce taxes.

Having been self-employed for a great portion of my working life, I paid a higher percentage of my earnings to the tax people than most politicians. What I gained in return was a decent standard of living in the greatest country in the world. These are not the days when all that is needed to survive is some acreage and a rifle. The needs that we cannot provide for ourselves must be provided by government. Most of us make few requests of our government and other than for protection and education, but helping those less fortunate makes us all richer.

By the way, if the Republicans had joined in the effort to increase the minimum wage, a lot of poor people would be a little better off today.
