Constructive change is needed
Editor,
I have never been one to write letters to the editor. However, after the last election for the Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council, I have been extremely concerned and bothered by the results of that election.
Please be advised that it is quite possible that this letter may never see the light of day in our own tribal newspaper.
For the past several months, we have all been reading and hearing so many concerns from the membership about the Council's actions that have been seemingly detrimental to the overall progress and welfare of the tribes.
And yet, when we have the opportunity to make changes, what do the voters do but vote back into office the same people we have been complaining about.
There were several candidates who clearly expressed their views on what and how to effect change, and yet we seemed to have ignored those progressive and constructive platforms to collectively vote for the same ol', same ol'.
It is my hope that we can all agree that constructive change is needed regardless of who is elected to office.
Our people, the membership, need and deserve a more positive and progressive direction for the future than what we have had in the past.
