Robert Leroy Schliep

RONAN — Robert Leroy Schliep of Ronan died at the Mountain View Care Center in Ronan on Saturday Nov. 5, 2005.

He was born on Nov. 28, 1924, at Lothrup to Martin and Ida (Frye) Schliep. He attended schools near Charlo and at Pablo and St. Ignatius. He entered the army on Dec. 4, 1943, and saw active duty in Germany. He was discharged on April 23, 1946.

He was married to Alyeen Whittikiend on Aug. 15, 1946. They had four sons. On Oct. 28, 1978, he married to Barbara Morigeau Schliep. They enjoyed 27 happy years together. Robert enjoyed camping, water skiing, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, collecting antiques and puttering around in his shop as well as maintaining their little farm. Robert retired from the Bureau of Reclamation Flathead Power and Irrigation project. He worked his way up from groundman to lineman foreman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Alvin Lee; brothers Lester and Arnold and sisters June Spade, Emma Blood, Margaret and Rose Schliep.

He is survived by his wife Barbara at the family home in Ronan; sisters Ruby (Carl ) Bergstrom of Lolo and Irene Blush of Polson; sons Leland (Cathy) of Billings, Glenn (Vickie) of St. Francis, Kan., and Gordon (Joyce) of St. Ignatius; Doug (Caryl) Brown of Ronan, and Wayne (Linnda) Brown of St. Ignatius.

Grandchildren and step-grandchildren include Ronda Sargent of Forsyth, Stacey (Dave) Steiger of Billings. Jason (Kelley) Schliep of Central City, Neb., Corey (Fani) Schliep of Topeka Kan., Byron (Sara) Schliep of St. Ignatius, Gabe Schliep of Spokane, Dewey Schliep of St. Ignatius, Matt (Jolena) Brown of Seeley Lake, Pam (Bob) Siloti of Kalispell, Jennifer (Buck) Barney of Ronan, Barbara (Travis) Michaud of Ronan, Joe Brown of Missoula, Stephanie (Quinn) Jones of Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Robert has 21 great grand children and step great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his faithful companions Maggie and Tippy.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Ronan. Graveside interment with military rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Pleasant View Cemetery in St. Ignatius.

Memorials may be made in Robert's name to Lake County Search and Rescue, Lake County Humane Society, Garden of the Rockies Museum in Ronan, The Ronan Bread Basket or a charity of your choice.
