Say 'no' to a Super Wal-Mart

| November 10, 2005 12:00 AM

Editor,

In opposing the presence of a Wal-Mart super center in Polson or in Lake County, I do not feel in conflict with the capitalistic mode of our country. If my information and self-analysis is correct the Wal-Mart corporation is a mammoth over-the-edge worldwide monopoly. Its "always low prices" comes at a cost of human rights and environmental abuses, using cut-throat business practices in the process.

Free enterprise is a win-win situation for our community but is in direct opposition to the super wealthy, power driven world monopoly. Fallout is the increasing dampening of an independent, competitive, friendly, flourishing community. It is time to consider these implications of Wal-Mart's plan to exercise further business take-over by opening a super-store, and in the process, putting more small independent businesses at risk, at the same time (as I understand) leaving their current retail store vacant.

Let's all work together to have a progressive voice in our community's future and say 'no' to a Wal- Mart super center expansion.
