Community Center is needed in Polson

| October 6, 2005 12:00 AM

Editor,

Once upon a time I was a teen. In the community where I lived we had a large community center near a park. What a great idea to combine the two, as the PARC group is proposing.

In our community center all ages of people took part. Seniors taught us to play pool, the evening brought out adults willing to tutor us in difficult school subjects. Other adults and teens listened to, read to, and played with grade school children.

Several times a week there was even a nurse that answered those pesky questions this teen couldn't ask at home.

You can see that I still have fond memories of the place and time. The community center was a safe place to get together to learn, read, and interact with others.

Let's get behind this good idea as a community and give the idea our full support.

Could we have an outdoor ice rink? Maybe a batting cage? (I still like to hit a few balls now and again). I urge all parents, grandparents, and just plain interested folks to sign one of the petitions, give PARC representative Mike Roberts a call (883-3286), and ask how you can help.
