He's a disillusioned ex-Democrat
Editor,
I was raised a Democrat. We named our livestock after the Roosevelts — the new colts were named Franklin and Eleanor. I believed that the sun rose and set on Democrats.
The New Deal kept us alive for 10 years. We were still in depression in 1941 when we entered World War II. That changed things — the wartime economy boomed.
Since the war I have become totally disillusioned with the Democrat party. Carter ran for president on a fake oil crisis citing our dependence on foreign oil. To make it appear to be a crisis he consorted with the "big oil companies" and mandated sky high gas prices and limiting bulk supplies. Limiting purchases to five gallons caused long lines at the gas pumps. An excess profits tax to tax the oil companies and the American consumers at the pump was just another big high tax scheme. Oil drilling went wild.
The results were double-digit interest rates and a total killing of the economy. Interest rates rose to over 20 percent. Ronald Reagan fixed that swindle, just as Bush fixed the 2001 recession. The oil bubble broke, bankrupting oil companies.
Now there are those who under the guise of environment crisis want the same surtax, high prices of gas and no development of our own national resources.
This insane philosophy masquerading as fiscal policy is being used to hinder, oppose and halt the sound program of the Bush administration. These slanderers hesitate at nothing, questioning the President's intelligence, filing bogus lawsuits against leading politicians.
Their own policies seem to obstruct any and all sensible programs and bring in unbearable tax loads and run-away entitlements. The voters should veto those who hold these policies by voting them out and truly bless America.
Listen to reason instead of their slander.
