ST. IGNATIUS — Hazel Moran was born in St. Ignatius on June 25, 1915, the third child of Baptisite and Annie (Kroesing) Cote.

She lived all of her 90 years in or near St. Ignatius.

Hazel married Bernard F. "Barney" Moran at the St. Ignatius Mission Church on April 11, 1934, and they were blessed with eight children and 64 years together. On Oct. 22, God granted Mom's wish to be reunited with Dad.

In 1948, Mom and Dad bought the farm on Old Highway 93 South.

There was lots of space for their growing family, and Mom lovingly raised her family, vegetables, flowers and many memories on the farm, where she lived until moving to Millpond Home in July 2005.

Mom not only raised but also canned or froze the family's annual supply of vegetables and fruit, made butter, baked and sewed many of the children's clothes.

Christmas time was extra special, with the many fantastic candies and fruitcakes Mom crafted for family and friends.

One of her most memorable accomplishments outside of family life occurred in 1938, when she was honored by John R. Daly for naming its "Mello Tender" Ham.

In the early 1960s, Mom took a bookkeeping class and began working in the office at the former Holy Family Hospital, where she worked for many years until her retirement.

Mom and Dad enjoyed camping, with Glacier Park as a favorite destination. For many years they also enjoyed the annual Labor Day rodeo in White Sulphur Springs. Mom and Dad traveled to Alaska, California, Michigan and Massachusetts to visit sons Tim and Jerry.

Mom was an avid bridge player, belonging for many years to several clubs. She also enjoyed her involvement in the Women's Club, Garden Club, Hospital Guild, and Catholic Ladies Guild, and especially with the March of Dimes. Mom was a fan of Griz football, the Red Sox and professional golf.
