Vikes will start playoff march on Saturday
NOXON — It was a narrow win for the Vikings, but a win nonetheless as the Vikings beat Noxon 12-8 last week.
The two teams were evenly matched and prevented each other from scoring throughout the first quarter. Andy Sieges broke the 0-0 tie with a blocked punt from the end zone for a touchdown. Noxon responded with a TD and a two-point conversion to give them the edge going into the half, 8-6.
Trey Sinclair had an eight-yard rushing TD for six more, and the Vikings maintained their lead by keeping Noxon scoreless throughout the duration.
"While the score didn't reflect it, I felt this was the best game we have played as a team," said head coach Steve Love. "The defense played well all night and Andy's punt block was the play of the day."
Love said that some of his players really came up big in difficult situations.
"Jeff Bucholz did an excellent job on offense while Jared Kingery stepped up big on defense with three tackles and an interception," he said.
Joey Ray led in tackles with six solos and an assist. Sieges followed with five solos and eight assists.
"The offense did the job at the line of scrimmage," Love noted.
On offense, Sinclair had 73 yards with 19 attempts while QB Bo Herak had 52 yards with three completions. Bucholz had a 46-yard catch.
Up next, the Vikes play Twin Bridges, a game Love predicts will be tough. The Vikings beat Twin Bridges 28-14 for the first game of the season.
"They are much better than when we played them last time," he said. "And it is no accident that they are in the playoffs. It should be a very tough game."
Place and time has yet to be announced.
