The Charlo Lady Vikings opened up the season taking down Drummond in three games, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22 Friday, before picking up one win and a loss on Saturday.

"This was a typical first game. It was nice to get it out of the way and see what we needed to work on," said head coach Christy Fryberger.

The team had 31 kills with Hayley Carr scoring 11 and Ma'Rya Hungerford taking seven. Hungerford also made up 21 of the 22 total assists as the team's setter.

The Vikings got 27 digs in on Drummond with Amanda Murphy and Rhondell Esterby both leading the team with seven.

Carr and Stevie-Leigh Sammons both earned four aces out of the 15 total earned by the team. Carr can also take credit for three of the team's blocks.

Saturday, during the first leg of a doubleheader against Lincoln, the Lady Vikings continued their momentum, winning in four games, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-22.

Carr made up 10 of the 24 team kills. Hungerford had all 17 assists. Nine digs by Esterby and nine digs by Sammons made up a majority of the team's 28 digs. Six of the team's 17 aces where attributed to Murphy who also assisted with two of the five team blocks.

But the Lady Vikings were not victorious over Victor — they lost in four games, 25-13, 18-25, 17-25, 11-25.

Jessie Bucholz made up nine of the team's 19 kills and 10 of 40 digs. Hungerford earned 12 of 13 assists as setter. Sammons assisted with four aces as the team earned a total of 12 aces.

"We struggled all day on Saturday," said Fryberger. "We came out with the win in the morning but we could not execute the fundamentals in either game."

According to Fryberger, the girls were "down emotionally" and they never came out of it, costing them the win against Victor later in the day.

The girls will head down to the Drummond tourney this weekend after playing at Hot Springs Tuesday night. Results of Tuesday night's action were unavailable by presstime.
