Faith or science choice is unnecessary
Editor,
The debate between creationism and evolution has left many people feeling they must choose between faith or scientific logic. This is not necessary, because science and faith are not mutually exclusive. Unfortunately evolutionary theory has been taught as fact, and as a result many have lost their faith in God in the high school classroom. Evolution is just a theory!
Consider this:
At the time of Darwin's studies, Gregor Mendel had not yet established the laws of heredity and genetics, which state that genetic codes are passed to offspring according to precise mathematical ratios, not the random process Darwin called "blending inheritance."
The First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics had not been established, which completely refute evolutionary theory.
Louis Pasteur was just beginning his famous experiments, which show that life (even microbial life) could not develop from non-life or chemicals.
The mathematical laws of probability had not yet been applied to Darwin's origin of life theory. The probability of even one protein molecule being created by chance is as "likely as a tornado whirling through a junkyard and accidentally assembling a fully functional Boeing 747." In other words, zero.
Darwin himself conceded that his theory would break down if future study of the fossil record did not reveal evolutionary "links" to support his claim. Paleontologists agree that these links have still not been found, in fact, the opposite is true: The fossil record does show the sudden appearance of nearly all the animal phyla, fully formed, with no trace of the evolutionary ancestors that Darwinists require.
The wonder of molecular science itself is enough to point to an Intelligent Designer. Every cell in the human body contains more information than 30 volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica. This obviously could not be the product of random chance. To quote biochemist Micheal Behe, "The results of the efforts to investigate life at the molecular level — is a loud, piercing cry of 'design!' The conclusion of intelligent design flows naturally from the data itself, not from sacred books …"
Discoveries in the last 30 years have prompted an increasing number of biologists, biochemists, astronomers, and other researchers to conclude that there is an Intelligent Designer behind the creation and development of life. If you don't want to believe it from the standpoint of the Bible, then rely upon the logic of science. You will reach the same truth either way.
It doesn't seem "extreme" to suggest the concept of Intelligent Design be presented to students in science classes. It does not endorse any religion. The evidence for it is compelling. Let students study and draw their own conclusion. We do not need to lessen scientific thinking and rely upon superstition to believe in a Creator.
God is not a product of superstition or myth. I urge other believers to not be intimidated by the secular movement or by science. Science will not undermine your faith in God; it will reinforce it
