Lady Bulldogs get win over Scarlets
The Mission Lady Bulldogs got a win over cross-town rival Arlee in three games, winning 27-25, 25-23, and 25-21 in volleyball action last Thursday.
Rayme Bringuel got the Scarlets ahead with a good serve, followed by a killl by Miranda Fox. Jonnell Wieder helped the Scarlets jump out to a 12-6 lead with more good serving, but Mission came back to take a 22-21 lead with three good serves by Kristin McClure.
Mission won 27-25 on a couple of bad serves to end the game.
"We'll play as a team," Mission's Ashley Mitchell predicted before the game, as she celebrated her 16th birthday.
"And try not to get frustrated," Catherine Baylor added.
Arlee again jumped out to a good lead, going up 20-15 behind good serves from Rayme Bringuel and her teammates, but the Lady Bulldogs again pulled ahead to win by a couple, 25-23.
Mission's Tara Anderson had some good serves, but Arlee got the ball back, trailing 18-22.
Mission's Miranda Fox helped the team close out the match with a 25-18 win.
The Scarlets were led in kills by Bringuell. Adrianne Willoughby led the team with 15 of their 28 digs, and Bringuell had two of the team's three blocks. Ershaunda Moran had an ace for the team, and setter Jonell Wieder had eight of the team's 12 assists.
For Mission, Baylor had three of the team's nine aces, setter Barb Pfeiffer had all 16 assists, Mitchell had 10 of the team's 21 kills and 10 of the team's 41 digs. She also had all three blocks for the team.
Later, on Saturday against Troy, Arlee won one but dropped three to the Lady Trojans. Bringuel led the team with 13 of its 58 assists and 15 of the team's 47 kills. Wieder had seven of the team's 12 blocks, and Moran had two of the team's three aces.
"We played hard, and we've been practicing hard," said Scarlet Abbe Bridgewater after the game. "We'll do better next time. This is our first game."
