Gladys S. (Matt) Felsman

RONAN — Gladys S. (Matt) Felsman, 73, died at her home in Ronan on Thursday, Sept. 22.

A member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribe she was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Arlee. Raised and educated in Arlee, the Ursulines in St. Ignatius and Pierre, S.D., she married Mark M. Felsman while in her early 20s. They made their home in St. Ignatius and Gladys became a dedicated housewife until Mark died in 1971 from an auto accident.

Gladys eventually became involved in the nursing profession shortly after Mark's death, working in Kalispell until the 1990s when she retired and returned to Ronan. Gladys enjoyed the occasional excursion out of the house but was a fairly private person who enjoyed her home. Gladys was a member of the Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Roberta "Bobby" Antelope; a brother, Clarence Matt; her daughter, Annabeth Savik-Felsman in 1994, and her husband's daughter, Twila M. Parker in 1999.

Survivors include her children Eugene Felsman of Polson, Dennis Felsman of Sandy, Utah, Douglas Felsman of San Diego, Terry Felsman of Pocatello, Idaho, and Melissa "Millie" Felsman of Idaho Falls; brother and sisters, Vic Matt of Arlee, Winona Arlee of Ronan and Rachel Caroline LaFrinire of Arlee; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Funeral Services were Tuesday in the Longhouse. Interment was in the Jocko Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VFW Auxiliary, 406 West 34th St., Kansas City, MO 64111.
