Jane Whitworth Mitchell
ARLEE — Jane Whitworth Mitchell left this world surrounded by her loved ones in her home in Arlee Sept. 25, 2005, after a short battle with cancer. Jane was born Jan. 14, 1922 in Valley Creek to Sam Whitworth and Rose Fyant Whitworth. She lost her mother at the age of 12, and took over the family's domestic responsibilities, and was raised by her father Sam.
She had four brothers (in order of age) Fred Whitworth, Sonny Whitworth, James Whitworth, and Norman Whitworth. The only sibling surviving is her brother/son Jim. She raised Jim with her own children due to the fact that he was two years old when they lost their mother.
Jane married Isadore Jackson Mitchell on July 8,1944. They had seven children together and later divorced. She had a special friend, Stanly Irvine, who preceded her in death in 1977. She went on to raise her remaining children and several grandchildren by herself.
She attended school at Valley Creek through the eighth grade. Between 1940 and 1950 she suffered from tuberculosis and spent six years at Cushman TB Center in Tacoma, Wash.
She enjoyed working at the Bathhouse in Hot Springs for 25 years. Jane enjoyed yard sales most of all. She also enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, cruisin' around and volunteering at the Arlee Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, and her brothers Fred, Sonny, and Norman, and one grandchild, Robert (Robbie) Mitchell Jr.
Jane is survived by a brother (son), Jim Whitworth of Pablo; her children, George Mitchell (Lanette "Honeydo") of Ronan, Margorie Mitchell Bear Don't Walk (Urban) of Crow Agency, Robert Mitchell of Arlee, Gary Mitchell (Lorene "Reeny") of Ronan, Sharron Noyes (Ed) of Ravalli, Donna Mitchell and Donald Mitchell both of Arlee; 21 grandchildren: Dennis Parker, Shelley Parker, Michelle Mitchell, Ron Mitchell, Urban Bear Don't Walk Jr., Scott Bear Don't Walk, Eldena Bear Don't Walk, Doug Harter, Lawrence Swaney, Roberta Jo (Bobbi) Mitchell, William (Billy) Mitchell, Tyson Cottet, Chad Cottet, Kayla Mitchell, Don (Isadore) Mitchell, Tasheena Mitchell, Sophie Mitchell and Treylon Mitchell, and Maya Barnaby; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Jane loved her children more than anything in this world, and would have done anything for them.
