Alvin 'Al' R. Peacock
POLSON — Alvin "Al" R. Peacock, 88, of Polson died of natural causes on Friday July 28, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Polson.
Al was born April 13, 1918, in Denver. He married Esther Inman in Denver on March 28, 1938. Their son Skip was born Dec. 22, 1938, and he was to be an only child.
Al was in the Army during World War II and spent time in the Philippines and in North Africa. He began a 45-year career in the automotive parts and service business in Denver.
He later worked for dealerships in California and Nevada before moving to Missoula in 1965, where he worked for 93 Chrysler-Plymouth, H.O. Bell Ford, and Wes Sprunk Motors.
He and Esther moved to Polson in 1981 and he worked for Don Aadsen Ford in Ronan until retirement.
He received many recognition awards for work in the auto business.
He was a member of the American Legion. He volunteered in Polson for Meals on Wheels and at the Senior Center serving lunch. Al enjoyed singing, dancing, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and water skiing.
He was part of several singing groups that performed at various places in Polson and nearby areas.
His wife Esther, his parents and two brothers, Roy and Jack, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son Skip (Diane) Peacock, grandchildren Jeff (Jennifer) Peacock and Wendy (Brad) Reid; and four great-grandchildren, Brydon and Katelyn Peacock and McKenzie and Logan Reid, all of Missoula; and eight nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by Pearl Jackson of Polson who has been a very very special friend to him.
A memorial service with military honors was held Aug. 1, in the Polson Community Church with the Rev. Richard Widerholdt and the Rev. Rod Benner officiating.
The family suggests memorials to the Polson Community Church at 1814 1st Street East, Polson, Montana 59860. Cremation and arrangements were under the direction of Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory.
