Hard to cope at $5.15 an hour
Editor,
I am outraged that Congress gave themselves yet another raise. Our elected officials continue to make 30,000 people over the age of 20 in this state try to live on $5.15 per hour. We are talking about workers who cannot afford to be sick.
With gas at $3 a gallon they cannot afford to drive to work if they have a long commute or an older car. It could take two or three hours of their wages just to buy their gas.
What about child care, mandatory car insurance, not to mention the luxury of health insurance?
We live in the richest country in the world and continue to blame those less fortunate for not having the gumption to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. What a crock.
We keep those disadvantaged strapped down and then yell at them for falling through the cracks or using welfare.
Why should a person who works full time be forced to live in poverty?
Please vote for "Raise Montana" in November.
