It was a travesty of justice
Editor,
It is with great hesitation that I write this letter, as I do not want to cause Russ and Joan Sherman or their family any more pain than they have already suffered. But after reading the front page article of the Aug. 3 Leader I feel that I have to respond.
What happened to Jami may or may not have been an accident. The driver may or may not have been impaired, but none of that matters, because the very second that they made the decision to leave the scene without seeking help for Jami, they committed murder, period.
They deserve no sympathy. They deserve no leniency and a $50,000 fine, which they can't pay and/or 10 years in jail, which they would only serve a small portion, is a travesty of justice to Jami and her family.
If our judicial system has become so inept that this is all it can attempt, then it is time for the public to take a stand. For when the justice system fails the law abiding citizens in favor of criminals, vigilantism is born as it becomes the only way left that justice can be obtained.
To the people who committed this horrible crime, may God have mercy on you, because I have none for your so callously taking the life of this vibrant young lady.
To the family of Jami Sherman, you have my and my family's deepest sympathy and total support and may more intelligent minds look upon this crime and prevail on your behalf.
