Mary Alice (Panchot) Salway

POLSON — Mary Alice (Panchot) Salway, 71, died of natural causes on Friday, Aug. 4, surrounded by family at her home in Ronan.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1934, in St. Ignatius to Harry and Faye Panchot.

She attended schools in the Mission Valley area. As a young teenager, Mary Alice had a wonderful opportunity to travel overseas with her parents.

She lived and attended school in such exotic places as the Philippines and Greece. She returned to Missoula and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1952.

While in Missoula, Mary Alice met her beloved husband, Alfred.

They were married in 1961 in Seattle. After moving to Calgary, Alberta, Mary Alice attended school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She nursed at Calgary General and Kalispell General Hospitals, St. Joseph in Polson and St. Luke nursing homes in Ronan.

After a long and dedicated nursing career, Mary Alice changed professions and became clerk at Pablo Water and Sewer District, before officially retiring in 1993.

In addition to her husband, Alf, Mary Alice is survived by a daughter, Sandy DiBernardo of Denver; three sons, Jerry and John Salway of Denver and Kasey Salway of Houston; a sister, Erma Otto of Pablo; a brother, Maurice Panchot of Las Vegas; an aunt, Winogene Clairmont of Polson; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated today (Thursday, Aug. 10) at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
