Higher sewer rates bring hardships

| August 17, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

This is directed to the St. Ignatius Mayor Charles J. Gariepy:

In this time of high gas prices and low income for most of our older citizens, you want to add more heartache to our people. As one who is on a fixed income, I cannot afford higher sewer rates at this time.

I know that I do not stand alone on this matter. It costs me $50 now for water and sewer. I get $836 per month; after I pay my bills, I have a few dollars left to buy groceries. Or I can pay the town the extra money [that] I buy groceries [with] and starve. Guess what I'm gonna do.

If you on the town council want to raise the sewer rates, then you pay for it. Give us senior citizens a break. Instead of starving us, give us some relief.

Leave us a little money in our pockets. I am a diabetic, also have osteoarthritis and am getting over cancer, so I don't have any money to waste. Let alone higher sewer rates.
