Prompt response to fires appreciated

| August 24, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

Ranchers have always depended on their neighbors to help in time of need, and we want to take this opportunity to thank our neighbors for their quick responses and willingness to come to our aid with our recent fires.

We are indebted also to the rapid, professional and overwhelming response we received from the volunteer fire departments of Big Arm, Polson, Ronan, Chief Cliff, from Tribal Fire Resources and the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, and others we are unaware of.

Tribal Fire Resources took command and directed activities until the three different fires had been extinguished. If their response had not been so timely or the use of air power not been called in, structures definitely could have burned.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to our neighbors, those volunteers who so generously gave of their time and to the professionals that gave of their energies to contain these fires. We live in a wonderful community.
