CHARLO— Starting off the season on the right foot is exactly what the Lady Vikings did Monday night, sweeping Hot Springs in three games in their home opener.
The Vikings came out strong setting up their first set win with a score of 25-19. The first set gave them the momentum to continue into their next set and place a strong hold onto Hot Springs, winning again 25-18. Going into the third set it got a little close but the Lady Vikings were able to finish strong and put another W in their column, ending the night 25-22 over Hot Springs.
"We have a few minor kinks to work out in our rotation, with this being our conference opener," said new Lady Viking head coach Bonnie Perry. "I was satisfied with our level of play however. I look forward to these girls breaking out and really stepping up the game."
Senior Stevie-Leigh Sammons led the Vikings with three aces, adding to the team total of seven. Senior Ma'Rya Hungerford had 23 of the teams 32 digs, and senior Hayley Carr knocked down nine kills helping to gain a team total of 29. Frosh Stephanie Maughan racked up 17 assists along with junior Justine Morigeau, who had 12 assists.
"We will be making some adjustments to our rotation this week," said Perry. "We will come out ready to play next week against Alberton at home on the 7th."
Last week Charlo competed in the Drummond tournament with Deer Lodge, Phillipsburg, Alberton and Victor. The Vikings made it all the way to the semi-finals before losing to Victor.
