Suggests Taylor-Toole debate in Polson
Editor,
I read Mike Taylor's response to a letter to the editor about his votes supporting deregulation. The facts are:
Mike supported deregulation when he voted for deregulation of natural gas.
Mike supported deregulation when he opposed a special session to stop deregulation.
Mike supported deregulation when he opposed a second call for a special session.
Mike supported deregulation big time when he signed on as a sponsor of the electric deregulation.
Mike supported deregulation when he voted for it following floor debate in the senate.
Mike opposed deregulation when he voted against it on "third reading," no debate or amendments allowed.
Mike opposed deregulation when he voted on the bill when it came to the senate from the house, again no debate or amendment allowed.
In the best light, Mike flip-flopped and only got it right in two out of seven votes.
I challenged Mike to nine debates through the campaign so we can talk about my record opposing deregulation and his record supporting it. I proposed that most of those debates occur in smaller towns, including Polson, where people don't usually get to see candidate debates. At the time Mike said, "The public deserves some debate, but it's too idealistic to think we're going to interest that many people in that many debates" (Lee Bureau, June 15, 2006).
So let me propose we have one in Polson moderated by whomever Mike chooses. What do you say Mike?
