ST. IGNATIUS — The Bulldogs came out on the winning end of two close games against Loyola and Florence last weekend, lifted by Casey Cable's last second shot to get the win Friday night to open the St. Ignatius tip-off tourney.

"We thought we might split the week but they played very well and we took them both," assistant coach Devlin LaFrombois said.

The Bulldogs opened the season against Florence. It was anyone's game until Cable dribbled the length of the floor with four seconds remaining to hit a jumper in the lane as time expired, giving the team the 37-36 win.

The game was close all the way through, with the third quarter ending tied, 26-26.

"In the fourth quarter we started pressing in on the half court press to help us win that one," LaFrombois said.

Cory Gies added a total of 16 points to the game. Arnold Torosian, Aaron Trudeau and Cable each added six points. Jorren Gies was in for one point.

Against Loyola, the Dogs picked up their second win of the season 66-62 to start off the season 2-0.

"Both teams were evenly matched and both teams were really disciplined in running offense," LaFrombois said.

The first quarter reflected how evenly matched the teams were, ending 14-13, but the Dogs came out ahead in the second quarter 11-5. The Dogs kept the lead with a 19-16 third quarter but they felt the pressure in the fourth quarter, and were outscored 22-28.

"Dallas Cordier did a pretty good job keeping us in the game plan, and Gies is our best offensive threat. The team did pretty well overall," LaFrombois noted.

Gies led the team with 34 points. Cable scored nine points, and Cordier scored seven. Trudeau picked up six points and Bo Coffman scored two. Torosian scored eight points.

The Bulldogs go up against Charlo on Thursday at home and on Friday, against Ronan. On Monday, they compete in Arlee.
