Gaming control is long range task

| December 14, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

I read in our tribal paper that our council has selected Mr. Dupuis along with lawyers Decker and Desjarlais to assist the tribes in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for gaming.

I have nothing against Mr. Dupuis. I just think since it's a long range task that the Tribe should look at this as a full-time commitment, as gaming is here to stay regardless of what the State of Montana has to say.

I agree we are having a minor setback as of now, but I think the State of Montana will come around. The plain and simple reason is they (the State) needs that almighty dollar.

I think the Tribe should advertise for a tribal member that's either qualified or is willing to be trained by our hired lawyers for the job.

Someone willing to learn and teach other tribal members, because down the road Mr. Dupuis may just find that handling two jobs could turn out very exhausting.

I'm just wondering why the lawyers couldn't relay their findings directly to the council.
