'Healthy Choice Day' was successful

| February 2, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

On Friday, Jan. 27, Polson Middle School offered the students a "Day of Healthy Choices." All the activities were teacher generated. Students were given choices of day long or half-day classes of different interests. The entire day was a great success for all who participated. Bob Mazurek and I partnered with The Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes Division of Fish, Wildlife, Recreation and Conservation and Montana Dept. of Fish, Wildlife and Parks' "Hooked on Fishing" program. Together we took 35 middle school students ice fishing on Lake Mary Ronan.

I thank Germaine White, Director of Information & Education, Natural Resources Dept., CSKT and technicians Cindy Bras, Rich Folsom, Joe Santos, and Mountain Wahl for all the work they did. Germaine and Cindy came to our school and presented a class to all our ice fishers on ice safety and fish identification as well as fishing regulations. Germaine, thanks so much for making our day a huge success.

I also thank Jan Thon and John Cloninger of Montana FWP "Hooked on Fishing" program, both of you also deserve a huge thanks for the awesome day our students experienced. Thanks to the parents for sending their students ready for a day on the ice and the students of Polson Middle School for being so well behaved. Lastly I want to thank Joe Mark, our bus driver for the side trip to see the Snowy Owls. A good time was had by all, thanks to teachers Bob (Mr. Limit) Mazurek, Lynn (Lose Line) Kelley, and Marvin (The Perchman) Todd.
