Big Arm fire station meeting went well

| January 19, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

The Big Arm Association last Monday night brought together almost 100 people plus dozens more who wrote or telephoned to support the Rural Fire District in finding ways to keep the Big Arm fire station open.

We were hoping for the best but were completely blown over, not only by the number of people at the meeting but by the incredible enthusiasm and willingness to make a difference in our community. Thank you, good neighbors. A very special thank you to the 10 people who took applications to become volunteer firefighters. We are very proud of you.

Two trustees, Ross Hoyt and Steve Lozar from the rural fire district, and Chief Tom Maloney had never seen such a wonderful response.

The community had a chance not only to meet eight brave firefighters but to personally thank them for their service.

Questions from the community were superb and detailed. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet neighbors and to discover what a diverse group we are.

The aim of this Big Arm Association is to bring the people in this community together regardless of politics, race, religion and whether they own or rent, or are only among us during the summer months. Our goal is to support our brave firefighters, create fun community events and help our neighbors in times of trouble.

For some of us who had never visited La Riviera Restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised. We found good food, very pleasing service and surroundings. We would like to thank owners Carlos and Juanita Toresani for hosting the meeting. A special thanks to Marcie and Kayla and all the wonderful support from the kitchen and bar staff.

The Big Arm Association invites everyone in the Big Arm fire district to attend our next meeting, date to be announced. We also need more volunteers to help with the organization. If you have any question or would like to help please call Alison, 849-6628, or Jan at 849-5636, or Kristen, 849-5326.
