Arlee's Levi Hendrickson did his hometown proud by winning the bull riding competition Saturday night by five points at the Arlee rodeo, and then followed it up with a win the next night in Drummond, as the only cowboy to go the distance that night.

Hendrickson won with 83 points on Saturday night, beating out three other bull riders. He said riding in front of the Arlee crowd for the Fourth of July helped get the butterflies out, and it showed on Saturday.

"I did pretty good on Tuesday, so I wasn't really worried about Saturday. I had a really good bull on Saturday, so I was excited about that. I had to ride up on him, but I got the job done."

He said he was surprised at his win in Drummond on Sunday. Hendrickson was the only one to get a time, after the other two got bucked off.

"I was third out, and the first two guys got bucked off. I was the only guy to ride a bull, so I got all the money," he said.

His score of 68 wasn't the highest of his career, but he was the only game in town that night in the bull riding, so it didn't matter.

Hendrickson will compete next week in the Mission Mountain PRCA rodeo in Polson, starting next Friday, July 21. He plans on competing in Wolf Point this week, before competing in Havre and Polson next weekend.

In an effort to compete with the other rodeos going on around the state, the Mission Mountain rodeo hosts have sweetened the pot to $2,000 for the rough stock events — double the normal offering — as they hope to draw cowboys from east of the divide for a chance at some more winnings. The action starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday night and 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Polson fairgrounds.

Hendrickson said he's looking forward to participating in all the rodeo action next week, as the PRCA circuit gets underway.
