Pro-supercenter group changes name

The citizens action group "Wal-Mart Consumers First has changed its name to Wal-Mart Supporters United.

Those who have already joined, please take note, and those who want to be members please send your name and address to Wal-Mart Supporters United, 359 Mission View Dr., Polson, MT 59860.

In the face of possible litigation from opponents of the supercenter, I hope all of those who have been considering joining WMSU will now do so. If a boycott of Lake County First businesses is called for, the bigger the membership we have, the better. A comprehensive list of those businesses is now being compiled.

I want to commend Greg Hertz and Carolyn Beecher for their work on the impact fees issue and for being, along with Jay Wilson Preston and others, able advocates for their cause.

But the elected officials charged with making the decision have voted in favor of the supercenter. That's democracy.

Isn't it time, as councilman Corse wisely suggested, to work for conciliation and move on?
