Stop the downward slide - now
Editor,
I am concerned about the moral slide our country is on today. The news is full of reports of moral corruption. There was a time not too long ago when even though the whole nation was not Christian, at least there was a Christian consensus. But this has been consistently chipped away at until it has become only a bare memory.
To cite one example, have you noticed the incursion of "relativism" that has impregnated our minds with its lies about fuzzy ideas about what "truth " is?
Relativism rejects absolute truth and morals which is taught by God's word in the Bible. An instance of this can be seen by the fact that the Ten Commandments are not longer allowed to be displayed in public buildings such a our public schools. In its place our schools now teach "Values Clarification," a program that teaches there are no absolute morals and that each child decides for him or herself what is right or wrong.
According to Biblical Christianity, ethical relativism leads to destruction. Matthew 7:13 says, " … wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many that go in by it."
Isaiah 5:20-21 says, "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!"
Societies based on relativistic ethics cannot help but be victims of "the permissiveness syndrome," a syndrome which, according to Boris Sokoloff, " … was present in various forms and degrees during previous civilizations … which were in decline or in serious trouble."
Friends, we need to repent of our sins and seek the mercy of Jesus Christ. This very thing has reversed the downward slide in the past, and it can do it again. Why not make this start with each one of us today?
