Evelyn Elfers Hein

Evelyn Elfers Hein, 84, of Longmont, Colo., died May 30, 2006, at Longmont United Hospital.

Evelyn Iona was born Nov. 16, 1921, at the family ranch near Pablo to Herbert and Mary E. (Winn) Elfers. She grew up and attended school in a one-room schoolhouse through the fifth grade, then went on to graduate from high school in Ronan. Evelyn graduated from business school in Spokane.

She worked in a government office in Ronan until her marriage to Clarence J. Hein. They were marred in Ronan on Dec. 3, 1944.

The family lived on farms in Nebraska and then in Ronan before moving to the Denver area. Clarence and Evelyn moved to Longmont in 1979. Evelyn belonged to a Christian Women's Club and volunteered at Life Choices. She also volunteered in the nursery for MOPs. She enjoyed teaching Bible Study Classes. She was an avid reader, enjoyed graphoanalysis, gardening, doing needlework, cooking, and shopping for clothes and shoes. Her greatest interest was her family and being with them.

Mrs. Hein was preceded in death by her husband and parents; two brothers, Paul and Laverne Elfers, and a sister, Natalie Scheele.

She is survived by a son, Alan James Hein and his wife, Patricia of Farmersville, Texas; three daughters, Beth Wilkinson and her husband, Bill, of Longmont, Lynne Stutz and her husband, Bill, of Cheyenne Wells, Colo., and Anita Edwards and her husband, Tom, of Westminster, Colo.; two sisters, Doris Mayer of Kennewick, Wash., and Alice Lindberg and her husband, Calvin, of Ronan; 10 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Memorial services were June 2 at the Twin Peaks Assembly of God Church in Longmont with Pastor John White officiating. Burial was at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
