Prefers 'funky' downtown stores

| June 29, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

I am not in favor of a Wal-Mart supercenter in Polson. I like funky downtown stores, farmers' markets, and thrift stores.

I believe that the Wal-Mart corporation has a monopoly on the economies of America and many poverty-stricken countries of the world, and I do not approve of this. Nor do I approve of Wal-Mart's track record regarding workers' rights.

I will continue to buy bulk and organic food at places like Polson's Mission Mountain Natural Foods and the local farmers' markets, and I will continue to have Yogi develop and print our pictures. I know it may be more expensive, but I save by buying clothing at thrift stores instead of paying exorbitant prices for new clothing made in third-world countries in sweatshop conditions.

And, I will not buy anything from a Wal-Mart supercenter (or a "regular" Wal-Mart) anywhere, especially in Polson.
