Ball program change is beneficial to all
Editor,
In the past few weeks the Polson Youth Baseball, Inc. and the Polson ASA Fastpitch have had meetings on the future of Polson's baseball and softball. Both groups agreed some changes would benefit both the boys and the girls. After all, the kids are what these programs are all about. In the past, the girls' spring softball and the summer ASA have had conflicts with schedules.
We felt in the long run both programs would suffer and a change at this time would be important. The ASA committee felt running both the boys' and girls' programs, even under the best of circumstances, could not be an easy task. We both felt that both groups were doing a good job, but in the interest of the boys and the girls it might be even better if we moved the girls' program under the leadership of the Polson ASA.
We are sure there will be many questions, so here is some information on what the girls have to look forward to. The name of the girls' spring program will be "Polson Girls' Fastpitch Spring League."
The spring league will remain Girls' Babe Ruth and the summer will remain ASA. The spring league will run April through June 3 for age groups 14 and under, 12 and under and 10 and under (T-ball and Rookie leagues remain with the Polson Youth Baseball).
We will still participate in the Mission Valley Softball League and the end of season tournament will be hosted by Polson for the three age groups, June 2 and 3, at the Polson Complex.
The summer ASA traveling season will start after that date. The ASA players will be invited from our spring leagues (ASA rules will not allow tryouts). All ASA players eighth grade and younger must participate in the spring. At times we may invite girls from other towns, but our main focus is with Polson.
Signups for the spring league will be March 13 and March 15 at 6 p.m. in the Polson High School auditorium. Parents/guardians must be present. Signup sheets will be at each school. We are also looking for coaches, umpires and volunteers in many areas. We encourage all girls, with or without knowledge of the game, to come out and enjoy the great game of softball. If you have any questions please call Paul Noble at 883-5527.
Thank you to the Grogans and the Polson Youth Baseball Committee for all their hard work and help with the girls' program.
Paul Noble
