We should thank our president
Editor,
Regardless of ones politics, one's ethnic background, one's religion, and one's personal prejudices, what we are faced with in our nation and in the world today requires each of us being willing to elevate our level of thought and action, it seems to me.
The Bush administration, being one of the most covert and controversial administrations in years, has done this country a huge favor. Because his leadership style has given tacit approval to the pandering to big money interests, has thoroughly mixed politics and religion, and has played cover-up to greed and very questionable politics, it has boiled to the point of exposure, explosion, and explanation.
The boldness with which too many in Congress have perpetrated these very undemocratic and destructive actions is catching up with them. All sorts of unethical practices are being investigated — from corporations right up to the oval office.
We should thank our president for helping cause the lid to blow off this cauldron of contempt for honesty and fairness, which has been building within our nation for decades.
I firmly believe that unless there is a shift in a critical mass of people's thinking and acting from greed, anger, hate and fear to generosity, compassion, trust and love that we will simply continue this slide down the slippery slope of disintegration.
The willingness to forgive is most important, not condoning bad behavior, but not allowing fear and hate to be our guiding light either.
As some fine spiritual leaders have suggested: In order to make a real difference in the world we must "be the change we wish to see."
