Bear story was revolting

| May 18, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

Several friends and I have found your story about the "Huge Alaskan Brown Bear" hunt absolutely revolting. What hunting was involved in aggravating a hibernating brown bear out of his winter den and then murdering him at only "3 to 4" feet away? Did he have a chance?

Why could not this have magnificent creature been viewed from a distance later in the year and appreciated, rather than point blank murdered up close for some man's ego?

It is time that we become conscious enough to realize that even though one's ego may crave the "conquest" (what a travesty of the term in this case) of the larger animals that share our planet, we conquer our egos instead and allow these magnificent creatures to live out their natural lives.
