Irene Antoinette Lodmell

POLSON — Irene Antoinette Lodmell, 94, beloved wife of Dr. E. W. Lodmell died on Friday May 26, 2006, at the Village Health Care Center in Missoula.

Irene was born on June 3, 1911, to Franciszek and Katarzyna Miskowicz and grew up in Little Canada of St. Paul, Minn. She graduated from St. Margaret's Academy, Minneapolis, and continued her education receiving her degrees in education and child welfare from the University of Minnesota.

Irene worked at the Federal Land Bank in St. Paul and then spent two years teaching on the Navajo Hopi Reservation. Irene married Ernest W. Lodmell in Minneapolis in 1938. They moved to Polson, in 1938. From 1942 until 1944, the family lived in Santa Monica, Calif., while Dr. Lodmell served in New Guinea during WWII with the Dental Corps.

Following their return to Polson, Irene taught first grade in Polson for 20 years. Irene was president of P.E.O., Chapter AI, was a member of the American Legion and VFW auxiliaries, and was also a member of the AAUW. Irene loved to read and write poetry. She also served the Country Store in Polson.

Irene was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Susan Lodmell; her parents Catherine and Frank Miskowicz and two sisters, Josephine and Eleanor.

She is survived by her husband Dr. E. W. Lodmell; her son Donald Lodmell and his wife Joni of Hamilton; her daughter Linda Kosvic and her husband Tom of Deephaven, Minn.; her grandchildren, Christopher Kosvic and Lisa MacCluskey of Pewaukee, Wis., and her three great-grandsons, William MacCluskey, Benjamin and Henry Kosvic.

Mass of the Resurrection was held May 30 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Drew Maddock officiating. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Grogan Funeral Home of Polson.
