Burns, Rehberg vote for Montana

| November 1, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

Like most of you, I'm looking forward to Nov. 7 and all these half-truths and misquotes will leave the papers and airwaves 'til the 2008 campaign starts — like in a month of two. I find it interesting that the votes on issues haven't been published or printed yet.

In the world we live in today, what a senator or congressman (or woman) stand for or against is just about life and death for our nation and freedom.

All that is needed before people go to the polls is to know how a candidate voted or feels. What the vote was on moral issues, tax bills, military support and funding, gun rights, trade policies, judicial nominees, states' rights, immigration, foreign policy, just to name a few of the issues we face today. Let's hear the candidates express their votes and feelings on these subjects.

I had the opportunity to meet Conrad Burns and Denny Rehberg. Let me tell you that they both vote and share American, Montana and family values.

In July a few years ago, Conrad Burns was helping the St. Ignatius Fire Department raise some needed funds. A few weeks later, the community was dedicating a Veterans flagpole. We asked Mr. Burns if he could come and speak to our veterans. He said he had an important vote that day that he could not miss, but he said that he would fly a flag over the capitol building for our veterans; this was late Saturday night. Wednesday, in the mailbox was the flag and a nice personal note from Conrad to our veterans.

We have had the same experience with Denny Rehberg, I have called both these men many times about issues and within three to four days a letter explaining their vote or intended opinion would be in the mail. Not once have they not responded to a call. I have a folder full if you might to see their votes.

Think before you vote: Will the candidate you select really represent you once they are in Washington, D.C., or will they vote the way their party votes? … I guarantee you that Conrad and Denny will vote for families, Montana and America.
