Kelsey Rollins Hanson
CHARLO — Kelsey Rollins Hanson went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 31, 2006.
"She fought the fight, ran the race and kept the faith."
Her strength and determination inspired many people. She courageously battled cancer for three and a half years, never complaining. Kelsey was a source of strength to many young oncology patients.
Kelsey Nicole Rollins Hanson died at the age of 20 in her home at Charlo. She was born April 24, 1986, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Frank and Kay Rollins. The family moved to Spokane when she was 16 months old.
Kelsey was raised in Spokane until the age of seven, then moved to the Mission Valley where she attended Charlo schools until graduating in 2004. She went on to attend UM for one and a half years.
Kelsey enjoyed all competitive sports, the outdoors, flowers and especially beating her dad at cribbage.
Kelsey married her high school sweetheart, Jacob Hanson, on Nov. 25, 2005. Kelsey thought of Jake as her "rock." They shared endless hours together. During Kelsey's last weeks, they spent time traveling, camping and just enjoying the sunshine.
Kelsey was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Francis and Wildred Rollins.
She is survived by her husband Jake, her parents Frank and Kay, and her brother, Brandon, all of Charlo; grandparents Clayton and Jean Blumer of Hayden Lake, Idaho; uncle, Rick and wife Linda Blumer and family of Hayden Lake; aunt, Rose and husband Keith Blevins and family of Charlo, as well as her married family.
A memorial service was held Nov. 4 at the First Christian Church in St. Ignatius.
Memorial contributions can be made to Camp Good Times, c/o American Cancer Society, 1403 W. Third Ave., Spokane, WA 99204.
This is a camp that Kelsey participated in and enjoyed and one that all young oncology kids look forward to each year.
