Rick Jore is man of integrity

| November 8, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

When I read Thompson Smith's letter on Rick Jore and the Constitution Party, I expected to be treated to half-truths, innuendoes and a good country story. Well, folks, I wasn't disappointed. Following a second reading I couldn't resist the urge to pick up a pen and try my hand at a response.

So, Thompson, you say you like Rick Jore. Well, how well do you know him? Comparing Rick Jore and his association with the Constitution Party to the Taliban leads me to believe you have the inside track on information the rest of us are not privy to. Perhaps you would like to provide us with an in-depth explanation of each of the charges you were so generous in sharing with the reading public. Or do you subscribe to a political party that believes winning an election at any cost is justifiable?

You see, Thompson, I don't believe you know Rick Jore . Do you want to know why I'm bold enough to say that? It's because the Rick Jore I know is a God-fearing man and he tries to live by the dictates of his faith. The politics that Rick expounds is a product of his personal integrity and the belief that government interference in our daily lives causes more damage to the moral fabric of our people than it protects. Many of us share that belief.

To list the abuses of government at the local level would take pages. A small example is your apparent approval of our three "Republican" commissioners' density zoning plan. If the bureaucratic encroachment of that act against personal property rights is not obvious to you, then I would conclude that you do not own property that is affected, or that you are okay with the commissioners being your controlling partners.

To you readers, I'll close with this personal observation: Rick Jore's integrity will always eclipse the politics of his "business as usual" opponent. To me, integrity founded on the principles of Christian faith is more than enough reason to vote for Rick Jore. I know Rick Jore and I am confident of how he will conduct himself in Helena.

Mr. Smith, I lost a nephew to the Taliban in Afghanistan. I resent your comparisons of Rick and the Constitution Party to them. I would ask that you retract that statement.
