Lawrence 'Larry' E. Hart

Former Polson resident Lawrence "Larry" E. Hart, 77, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at his home in Grants Pass, Ore.

A celebration of life was held Nov. 18, at Stephens Family Chapel in Grants Pass.

Larry was born on March 29, 1929, in Eureka. He graduated from Polson High School in 1947.

On May 31, 1947, he married Margiebel Taylor in Polson.

He worked for the Montana Highway Department on Marias Pass, and as section man at Lakeside for 18 and a half years. Larry sold insurance for two years and then went to work for Bell Manufacturing.

In 1971 they moved to Grants Pass where Larry accepted a position as general manager of Caveman Campers. In 1978 he bought Caveman Campers with his business partner, Herb Moussa. They closed the plant in 1983, and Larry and Margiebel moved back to Montana and then to Richmond, Va., for eight years. Larry retired in 1992 and returned to Grants Pass in 1995.

Larry was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 150, Bigfork, Scottish Rite, Missoula, Hillah Shrine, Medford, Ore., Western Star No. 64, school board member and volunteer fireman in the 1960s in Montana, and director of the Grants Pass Golf Club 1977-1981.

Larry enjoyed woodworking in his shop, golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors Include his wife, Margiebel Hart, of Grants Pass; son, Dennis, and Monica Hart, of Graham, N.C.; daughter, Candis, and Clyde Stearns, of Mukilteo, Wash.; two granddaughters, Brittany and Tory Johnson of Kalispell, and Brooke Stearns of Venice, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Easton, Madison and Kennedy Johnson of Kalispell; two sisters, Betty Erickson of Polson, and Dorothy Hass of Toledo, Ohio; brother, Don Wehr, of Cloquet, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Hart; stepfather, Pat Hart; and brother, Albert Wehr.
